Dear AVH Colleagues,
The upcoming joint conference in Portland is coming along nicely. I thought I would outline the weekend and provide as many details as we know at this point.
Both conferences have an Early Bird rate that extends to 20 June 2014.
Both conferences (AVH and AHVMA) will be held at the Red Lion Hotel on the River, Jantzen Beach, Portland, Oregon. If you book a room, please be sure to be registered under the AHVMA room block (https://resweb.passkey.com/go/AHVMA2014). If you have already booked, please double check that reservation, we want to be sure you get the best room prices and we need to fill the room blocks in order to have lecture halls. Let me know if there are no suitable rooms left in the block.
COMPLIMENTARY DAY FROM AHVMA (and vice versa):
AVH registrants may attend one day of AHVMA lectures at no charge. Any part of a day counts as the complimentary day. For instance, a person registered for the AVH conference could attend AVH (Friday through Sunday a.m.), then attend either all day Monday or all day Tuesday at the AHVMA, no extra charge. If an AVH attendee goes to AVH lectures Sunday am and then to AHVMA Sunday afternoon, Sunday is the “free” day at AHVMA. AHVMA conference proceedings, luncheons, and banquet are NOT included in this complimentary day pass. AHVMA luncheon tickets are available for purchase for Saturday, Sunday, Monday through the AHVMA website. Cost is $35 per lunch. The AHVMA breakfast meeting is available to AVH conference attendees on the day that they use their complimentary day pass, however, individuals MUST sign up for this breakfast at the AHVMA registration desk. There are limited seats available ie a seat at the AHVMA breakfast is not guaranteed.
AHVMA registrants may attend one day of AVH lectures at no charge. Any part of a day counts as the entire day. Meals and proceedings are NOT part of the complimentary day. Printed or CD proceedings are for sale at the AVH registration desk for $40.
Note, if a member wants to attend only two days of the opposite conference (as opposed to one complimentary day or the entire other conference), a single day attendance ticket must be purchased. It is a good idea to look at both organizations’ lecture schedules to see what might fit your needs. We have put some thought into which lectures are on which days. Day passes will be color coded for the different days and are NOT transferrable.
Those registered for the whole AVH conference will receive lecture notes via email in time to print on you own before the conference. Please sign up online and pay for printed proceedings before the conference, if possible, as there will be limited copies of the printed version at the AVH registration desk. AVH printed or CD proceedings are for sale for AHVMA registrants, students, and ND students at the AVH registration desk for $40. AVH proceedings are not broken down into daily sections and are available in their entirety only.
AHVMA will NOT provide printed proceedings this year. Every AHVMA member does receive meeting proceedings as a benefit of membership dues. Those CDs will be mailed to AHVMA members one month before the conference. Those nonmembers who purchase attendance to the entire AHVMA conference OR who purchase a single day ticket (this is different from the complimentary day pass) will receive the CD proceedings before the conference. Those who are NOT members of AHVMA may purchase proceedings on CD for $30 at the conference, at the AHVMA registration desk. AHVMA proceedings are not available by the day, only in their entirety.
SINGLE DAY ATTENDANCE:
AVH–Anyone wishing to purchase a single day attendance ticket to AVH lectures, the cost, also on the website, is at members price of $150 Friday, $150 Saturday, $75 Sunday, nonmembers $200 Friday, $200 Saturday, $100 Sunday and students $75 Friday, $75 Saturday, $50 Sunday. AVH proceedings are not included in the single day attendance fee but can be purchased in printed or CD form for $40 at the AVH registration desk. The proceedings are not broken down into daily sections and are available in their entirety only.
AHVMA–Additional single day attendance tickets are available for sale on the AHVMA website at $250 per day. These tickets are different from the complimentary day ticket. The purchase of a single day AHVMA attendance ticket includes that day’s breakfast, luncheon, and conference proceedings on CD. Those purchasing these single day tickets need to be sure to sign up for the included meals (at the AHVMA registration desk) in order to have an accurate head count for the meals. There is no charge for these meals but one must sign up. Breakfast seating is limited and a seat there is not guaranteed. The Sunday evening banquet is not included with a single day registration, $65 tickets for this banquet are available for sale on the AHVMA website.
Note, if a member wants to attend 2 days of the opposite conference, a single day pass must be purchased. It is a good idea to look closely at both organizations’ schedules to see what might fit your needs. We have put some thought into which lectures are on which days. Day passes will be color coded for the different days and can not be transferred.
THE AVH CONFERENCE:
The AVH conference begins Friday morning with registration at 7:30 a.m., first lecture at 9:00 a.m. The AHVMA conference does not begin until Saturday, so we hope to have some AHVMA folks with us on Friday.
Friday luncheon is our annual members meeting. Yet AGAIN (!!!!), PetGuard has graciously offered to sponsor this luncheon. They continue to be incredible sponsors and friends of the AVH. Thank you PetGuard! This luncheon is for AVH members only. All children, partners, spouses and significant others are welcome to attend but MUST purchase tickets in order to attend. Tickets are $40 and should be purchased by 1 August so that we have an accurate headcount.
Friday speakers are Sarah Stieg, Nicola Henriques, Sara Fox Chapman, Will Falconer. We finish at 6:15 p.m. Friday night.
Our second day of lecture, Saturday, begins at 9 a.m. We hear from Lisa Melling, Richard Pitcairn and Will Falconer. As this is the first day of the AHVMA conference, our breaks are timed to coincide with theirs. The exhibitor hall is pretty big! Longer breaks give us all time to visit exhibitors, grab snacks and see friends from the AHVMA. It continues to be very important to this and to future conference finances to visit the exhibitor hall. Be sure to let exhibitors know you are from the AVH (as well as from AHVMA).
The AVH Board will meet Saturday over the lunch break.
Saturday, 5-6:00 p.m., the AVH is holding a reception geared toward those new to homeopathy. The reception will be held in the AVH regular meeting room. This event is not for AVH members. It is for AHVMA conference attendees who are interested in learning more about the AVH and/or homeopathy. Richard Pitcairn, Sarah Stieg, Elise Radebaugh and Lisa Melling will be sharing short talks with attendees, discussing how to effectively utilize homeopathy in practice.
Saturday evening is the AVH Speaker’s Dinner, to be attended by the board and conference speakers.
Sunday begins at 8:00 a.m. and features Adriana Sagrera and Elise Radebaugh. Our morning break again matches that of the AHVMA. We are currently scheduled to finish at 12:40 p.m. but that time may be adjusted some in either direction as the conference gets closer, so stay tuned.
Sunday evening is the AHVMA banquet. Tickets are $65 and are available on the AHVMA website.
